C. Cookies
When you access the DMConnection website, your computer leaves a data trail through the use of "cookie technology". Cookies are small text files a website creates when you visit a site. There are two common types of cookies, "session cookies" and "persistent cookies". Session cookies store information only for the length of time that you are connected to a website. Unlike "persistent cookies", they are not written onto your hard drive. The use of cookies is an industry standard and most websites use them to provide useful features to their visitors. Cookies in and of themselves do not personally identify users, although they do identify a user's computer.
(i) Cookies and web usage reports
Session cookies are used to learn how visitors navigate through the various parts of a website. This tracking data is used in the aggregate to assist in providing the most efficient service and navigational tools for visitors to the website. For registered visitors, there is a link between the website tracking data generated from the session cookies to some of the personal information provided. Through this linkage, aggregate demographic profiles of web usage can be created. These statistical and aggregate reports do not contain any personally identifiable information. Also created is a record of individual web usage. This information is used for billing, fraud protection and marketing purposes. Aggregate reports are used to learn how many visitors with certain characteristics (e.g. specialty, geographic region) visit a particular portion of the website. This aggregate information helps determine areas of the website of particular interest. The aggregate reports could also serve as the catalyst for the creation of new features at the DMConnection website and the development of further services.
(ii) Cookies and log-in preferences
Cookies can also make your use of the website easier by saving language and sign-in preferences. Persistent cookies are used to store information so that you will be "remembered" by the server. You will not have to go through the "splash page" and enter your sign-in identification each time you visit the site. You can indicate at initial registration whether you wish to have your computer "remembered" by checking the "Remember Me" box at sign-up. You will have to re-enter your sign-in information each time if you do not choose this option. With most Internet browsers, you can erase cookies from your hard drive, block all cookies or receive a warning before a cookie is used. Please refer to your browser instructions or help screen to learn more about these functions.
Disclosing Information
DMConnection will not sell or share personal information collected on this website with other organizations except as necessary to provide the requested services in connection with your use of this website and except as required by law. The statistical and aggregate reports generated about web usage on this website may be shared with third parties such as website technicians. We require third parties to whom we disclose aggregate information to have signed confidentiality agreements and to agree that they will not attempt to make this information personally identifiable by combining it with other databases or through any other means.
